Meet the seven extraordinary teachers who have been shortlisted for the The Earth Prize 2023 Educator of the Year Award!
Each of these teachers was nominated by the students in recognition of the support provided during The Earth Prize competition, as well as for their dedication towards the education and the community.
Following the legacy of the original award, every year WEEC’s Secretary-General, Professor Mario Salomone, will select and announce the winners of The Earth Prize Educator of the Year Award and a $10,000 prize at The Earth Prize Awards Ceremony.
Kathy is a chemistry teacher at College des Sœurs des Saints Cœurs (SSCC) Ain Najm in Lebanon. This year, she was made head of the high school division. This new position entails involvement in a plethora of projects whose main objective is to guide the entire establishment into a more environmentally-friendly era. She is in charge of preserving the natural biodiversity of the school, organising conferences about climate change and hydroponic farming, managing the Citizenship and Ecology Club and assisting co-workers in sustainable development projects. Guided by an undying passion and intense fascination for nature, she is an active member of society and has been a volunteer in the Lebanese Guides Association (AGDL) for more than 22 years. Throughout these years, she has led and given training sessions for girls aged 6 to 8, to teens of 15 and 16 years old as well as to adult leaders. Following the path of a senior education advisor, she aims to accomplish the goal of building a better future in Lebanon. She is a mother of two toddlers and a cancer survivor who gives testimonials about this life changing experience.
